The average income per person is generally higher in Denmark than in Sweden, which is also reflected in the Öresund region, with higher income levels on Zealand than in Skåne. It is important to note that this says nothing about purchasing power. To do so, we would need to take into account the different price levels of the different countries and regions. Unfortunately this is not possible today.

There are significant income differences among the municipalities on Zealand (see map on the following page) with regard to after tax income per person. As of 2004 the difference between the ten municipalities with the highest average income and the ten municipalities with the lowest average income was slightly more than  EUR 4 800 per person. There are also income differences in Skåne among municipalities but they are not as extensive. The average difference among the ten municipalities with the highest and lowest incomes was slightly more than EUR 1 400 in 2004.
